What is your recipe for a perfect Sunday afternoon?
Outdoors and active before relaxing indoors. I enjoy running so a good run to and around Holyrood Park (even including the hills) or perhaps a good walk with my family (Botanics, Water of Leith) before a full Sunday roast and the newspapers.

Which recent film or book would you recommend and why?
There is no one particular book I could pick out; I do enjoy travel writing and love experiencing different parts of the world through the eyes of different writers. It allows one to dream of possible holidays to come during a busy school term.As for a film, I have just acquired “Quantum of Solace” on DVD so I’m hoping to try to understand the plot-line second time around.

What has given you the most satisfaction in your job?

Being headteacher of The Compass School for the past 14 years has been a veritable pleasure and a privilege. I have had the honour of being the headteacher of a school which by its size provides so many rich and varied opportunities for its children. Knowing every child and watching them grow, develop and flourish during their time at the school is perhaps the most satisfying aspect of my job.
