Additional information

In line with mainstream education in the rest of Europe and most countries world-wide, the start of formal learning in Steiner Waldorf schools is delayed until the age of six years. Pre-school education therefore consists of the Kindergarten from ages 3-6. The Lower School covers the ages from 6-14 and the Upper School covers the final years from 14-18.

We are proud to offer...

The Edinburgh Rudolf Steiner School offers the internationally recognised Steiner Waldorf curriculum. This is a curriculum that, although first established in 1919, is increasingly valued for its innovative approach with current research frequently validating what has long been the practice in Steiner schools throughout the world.

Chair of the College (2010) : Nick Brett

What is your recipe for a perfect Sunday afternoon?
I like to sit on the sofa and read the papers while enjoying a good strong coffee and nibbling some very dark chocolate. I then might have a little snooze. After this quiet repose, I feel most at ease out in the garden or walking up in the Pentland Hills.

Which recent film or book would you recommend and why?
“A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini. This was a very harrowing book to read but I very much enjoy Hosseini’s style of writing. Once I got into the story I couldn’t put it down. I came away with a better understanding of life in Afghanistan. It is not for the faint hearted.

What has given you the most satisfaction in your job?

There are three areas that fill me with enthusiasm and energy to keep doing what I do: the openness and wonder of young children, the amazing potential of young adults who are leaving school and the challenges and rewards of working with parents and colleagues.

Married with three teenage daughters, Nick is a Lower School class teacher and chair of the College of Teachers.
