Newhaven, Edinburgh is a fabulous place to take a young family at the weekend. There is a colourful, wee harbour full of boats; a lighthouse, a climbing wall, great fish and chips and a fantastic, long pier, from which Fife, North Berwick and the Forth Bridges are all visible. What young kid (aged 2+) or teen (14+) would not enjoy a spin on a Radpower? The bikes are stylish, comfortable and safe. It’s hardly surprising that they won Best Electric Minibike 2020. Aside from being eco-friendly, the bikes feature chunky, puncture-proof tyres and the most comfortable saddles imaginable. Children’s seats, helmets and raincapes are all available. And the company can provide three infant seats for children aged 2-4 and four seats for 4-8 year olds.
Co-owner Euan is an experienced bike mechanic: he can always guarantee a smooth ride and will service your own bike for you too. The other owner Carol is bubbly and fun—she leads the tours.
We recommend the Coastal Tour for families with young children or teens. Setting off from Newhaven at 11am, you take the quiet cycle paths to Silverknowes Esplanade. Then, having followed the Forth to Cramond, you finish at the stunning Dalmeny country estate. Refreshment stops can be built in along the way and the biking itself requires minimal effort. So you can focus on the stunning views.
An Edinburgh tour is also on offer. This is your chance to take friends and family around on the bikes, whilst social distancing, if need be. Of course, you can also rent the bikes for the day without a guide. There are discounts available for 3rd and 4th bikes.
