ABOUT US
Cargilfield is a unique Scottish independent boarding and prep school in Edinburgh for 300 girls and boys aged 3 to 13 and has been educating and inspiring children since 1873. With its 13 acres of picturesque grounds, our campus is conveniently located just 10 minutes away from the centre of Edinburgh.
We believe in developing vital life skills such as independence, curiosity, kindness and positive self-esteem, alongside academic advancement, to prepare children for their later education journey and provide them with lifelong memories. We offer a flexible approach to learning, where the individual needs of each student are attended to, ensuring that every girl and boy can realize their potential to the fullest.
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
We nurture all children to leave Cargilfield with active, enquiring minds and with a confidence in who they are, in their values, and the contribution they make to their community. We achieve this by teaching each individual within small classes, setting high expectations for the children, and making sure that learning happens in all aspects of daily school life.
At Cargilfield, your child will experience a broad and comprehensive academic experience well beyond the conventional curriculum expectations for 13+ through a coherent programme of learning from Nursery and Pre-Prep, towards success in Common Entrance and Scholarship examinations in Form 8. Beyond the more conventional academic disciplines, such as Latin, French, and Greek, there is an abundance of specialist offerings such as Music and Drama, Art and Design, and Outdoor Education. Students can take part in daily sports, and both computers and ICT are seen as integral parts of the curriculum, never as an end in themselves.
This year, a total of 31 scholarships were offered to our Leavers from prestigious senior schools throughout Scotland and England, causing us to take immense pride in our students' accomplishments.
