Situated between Musselburgh Race Course and the River Esk, Links Nursery (Est. 1995) occupies a spacious 19th-century former golf clubhouse, now converted to a welcoming nursery. There children aged 0-5 build ‘trusting relationships’ in a ‘nurturing environment’ where staff are ‘warm’ and ‘attentive.’ (Care Inspectorate, 2018 & 2020). The dedicated and professionally qualified staff team and are all registered with SSSC and Disclosure Scotland.
Conceived to further a child’s holistic development, the nursery’s outdoor learning facilities are both extensive and varied. In the ‘Eco Garden’ children grow and care for plants using a variety of tools, whereas the equipment in the ‘Physical Garden’ promotes balance, coordination and gross motor skills. A third, decked garden area boasts a sound and water wall, sand pit and home corner, all of which encourage imaginative play and independent exploration. What’s more, the nursery’s location means children regularly visit local parks, beaches and the nearby river.
Links Nursery has three spacious, light-filled and well-resourced playrooms, all of which ensure multiple planned opportunities for heuristic play. Each room comprises age-appropriate story, craft, role-play and construction areas, as well as sensory stations. As children grow older, planned activities increasingly promote early Maths and Literacy concepts in line with Curriculum for Excellence. And all children are regularly encouraged to listen to and respond to music through song and dance.
There is also a dedicated sleep room, a parents room and a separate dining room where children enjoy highly nutritious, balanced meals which are freshly prepared onsite.
The nursery — which is open from 7.30am until 6pm — prides itself on being flexible: full-time, part-time, and shift pattern contracts are all available. They also offer term-time only and council-funded places. Prospective parents and carers are warmly invited to book a tour by contacting the nursery manager.
