George Heriot’s pupils talk mental health with Fergus Crawley

18th June 2019 – Edinburgh – Mental health advocate, Fergus Crawley, visited George Heriot’s School as part of the school’s initiative to encourage its young people to be open about mental health and speaking out.

During his visit to the Edinburgh school, where he addressed both junior and senior school pupils, Edinburgh-born Fergus (23) talked openly about the difficulties he faced with the transition to university, as well as his own suicide attempt in 2016, and provided advice he wished he had known at the time.

Advocating the importance of good mental health among her pupils, George Heriot’s Principal, Lesley Franklin, said: “At George Heriot’s, we work hard to make mental health a priority within the school. This visit from the inspirational Fergus Crawley will help our students to recognise the help they may need in order to live fulfilling and happy lives.”

Franklin concluded: “By teaching resilience and promoting wellbeing we hope to instil a positive mindset in our students, in school and beyond.”
