New principal starts at George Heriot's school end of summer term 2021

Gareth Warren has been appointed new principal at George Heriot’s School and will take up his position at the end of the Summer Term 2021.


Chair of the Board of Governors Joyce Cullen announced to parents and staff:


On behalf of the Board of Governors, I am delighted to announce the appointment of our new Principal, Gareth Warren, following a robust five-month recruitment process.


Currently Rector of Morrison’s Academy in Crieff, having held that position since 2015, Mr Warren will take over from Mrs Franklin, who steps down as Principal at the end of the 2021 summer term.

Mr Warren is an inspirational leader with a clear vision and a proven track record and we can be confident that he will build on Heriot’s illustrious past and create an exciting future for this very special school.


Educated at University of Liverpool (Pharmacology) and University of Bristol (Post Graduate in Education), Mr Warren attended University of Edinburgh to secure his Scottish Qualification for Headship and Post Graduate in Educational Leadership and Management.


Prior to moving to Morrison’s Academy, Mr Warren was Depute Head Teacher, Senior School at George Watson’s College. He has also taught at Craigmount High School, Edinburgh, Warwick Academy, Bermuda, The Kingsway School, Stockport and Great Sankey High School, Warrington.


Outside school Mr Warren is a board member of Creative Crieff, a charity focusing on town regeneration through the expressive arts and youth engagement and has been instrumental in the re-establishment of the Crieff Science Festival.


A keen sportsman, he has coached school rugby, hockey and cricket sides and started school sailing clubs in Bermuda and Edinburgh, leading a sailing trip around the Greek Peloponnese Islands.
