The Edinburgh Academy Nursery is a very special part of the Junior School community. Children are happy and confident, and their wellbeing is, at all times, nurtured by warm and caring interactions from the experienced and passionate team of professionals who are committed to ensuring that all children reach their full potential and feel a sense of joy and achievement.
The Edinburgh Academy Nursery provides a bright, stimulating, and welcoming environment for children aged two and upwards. Within the specially designed nursery building, there are five rooms, each with a dedicated team who work closely with parents and carers to ensure an individualised approach to settling in for each child and their family. Parents enjoy daily updates through face-to-face conversations and through online observation pages where the team posts comments and photographs about the children’s experiences and learning. Planning for learning across the Nursery is intentional, seasonal, and responsive, and children are supported to develop a wide variety of skills through rich play opportunities.
The outdoor facilities are also exceptional, with extensive play areas, sensory gardens, allotments, and a woodland-based outdoor classroom. Children have access to exciting opportunities throughout the day, both indoors and outdoors, and are encouraged to make choices in their play and learning. Our team of Junior School specialists in PE, music, French, and outdoor learning also work with the children in Nursery, helping to ensure a smooth transition into Primary 1.
The experienced and compassionate Nursery leadership team demonstrates a clear vision, values, and aims that are underpinned by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. One of our early years practitioners (EYPs) recently commented that, “I feel privileged to be part of a team of like-minded people passionate about children’s development and striving to provide the best quality care for children.”
