By George Heriots School

As a sector-leading school, George Heriot's understands the importance of wellbeing and how to develop happy young people. From Nursery through to S6, building strong educational foundations is a prerequisite for children to make sense of the world.
Heriot's Nursery is a modern, child-friendly hub where pupils engage in purposeful, child-led play from 08:15 to 14:00, and after-school care is available until 18:00 every day. This important pre-school year is run by qualified primary teachers, early years practitioners, and subject specialists, including Music, PE, and Heriot's unique Learning Enhancement team.
We balance inquiry-based learning with foundations in literacy and numeracy, building skills and knowledge right from the start. Nursery activities are planned around advancing emotional, personal, and social skills, shaping creative and physical abilities, and developing knowledge of the immediate and wider world.
Each child's development is carefully tracked and monitored to ensure positive learning outcomes – Heriot's works closely with parents so they are involved in their child's development. All Nursery children sit the school's Primary 1 Entrance Assessment in January.
Heriot's welcomes children aged 4–18, with key entry points in Nursery, P1, P6, P7, S1, and S6.
Our 2025 Open Morning will be held on Saturday 27 September 2025, and we are also delighted to welcome prospective parents throughout the year.
