St Mary’s Music School invites families to its Chorister Pre-Audition Afternoon, a relaxed and welcoming introduction designed especially for P4 pupils who love to sing and are interested in becoming full-time choristers from September 2026. The event sits within the school’s celebrated chorister program, which offers children a unique combination of outstanding musical training, a first-class academic education, and participation in a centuries-old choral tradition. All choristers are educated at St Mary’s Music School.
Who can attend?
• The Chorister Pre-Audition Afternoon is open to P4 pupils only who enjoy singing and are considering applying to become a full-time chorister at St Mary’s Music School from September 2026. Children should live within reasonable travelling distance of St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, Edinburgh.
During the afternoon, children will:
• Take part in a fun, friendly singing session led by the choral staff
• Get a feel for what rehearsals are like and how choristers work together
• Learn more about chorister life at St Mary’s Music School, both musically and day-to-day
• Build confidence and understanding ahead of the audition process
This is not an audition. However, participants may be invited to audition by the Director of Music at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral following the afternoon.
Parents and carers are warmly invited to attend. They will have the opportunity to:
• Ask questions about becoming a full-time chorister and life at St Mary’s Music School
• Hear their child sing in the Cathedral
• Learn more about the musical, academic, and pastoral support offered
The next pre-audition day is 20 February 2026.
