A later start to formal schooling?

New 12-Minute Documentary.

Award-winning filmmaker, Saskia Anley-McCallum, specialises in directing films about education. In her most recent work, she looks at Scotland, an 'outlier' with one of the youngest school starting ages in the world.

Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) on paper has a profound understanding of child development, encouraging a play-based start; yet for most young children in Scotland, this is not their experience of P1 & P2.

The 12- Minute Documentary explores the importance of play and a later start to formal schooling; getting to grips with the barriers to the countrywide failure of most Scottish schools to turn the play-based principles of CfE’s Early Level into practise over the last decade.
