Children, staff and parents at The Compass School have recently raised over £1500 in aid of the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity by holding a ‘Heroes’ Day in school.
Inspired by the school’s Pupil Council, children were encouraged to come to school dressed as their favourite hero and to list five key facts about them. These ‘heroes included sportsmen & women, explorers and adventures, emergency workers and members of the armed forces, story writers and members of their own families.
A really enjoyable morning was had by all, beginning with a visit to our morning assembly from the Rev. Canon O’Ryan from Holy Trinity Church in Haddington, who talked about the qualities a hero might possess. This was followed by a ‘heroes’ themed House event run by our House Parents; and the morning concluded with a very well-attended and popular bake sale run by some of our mums, with an array of delicious treats having been baked by our talented parents!
Headmaster, Mr Mark Becher, said:
“I am delighted to report that through donations received through our Just Giving page, Compass families have raised a phenomenal £1160! In addition, the bake sale raised a further amazing £320.50, whilst the sale of cards and tags made by a member of staff also raised £47. This results in a total for the day of £1527.50. This is an incredible result and one we know that will result in so many benefits for children who require to spend time at the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital. On behalf of the Pupil Council and everyone here at The Compass School, we would like to thank everyone for their kindness and generosity in getting behind this initiative in such a positive way.”
Representatives of the Pupil Council will shortly visit the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital to present a cheque for all of the funds raised.
