The Forest at Merchiston & Merchiston: Open Day
On Saturday 4 October, Merchiston Castle School invites families to join them for their Open Day, to explore what school life is like across both The Forest at Merchiston (nursery and primary, boys & girls ages 3-9) and the Senior School (boys only, ages 9-18). This is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in a community where every step of your child’s growth is recognised, supported, and celebrated.
The Forest will be greeting families between 9:30am and 11:30am. This is a chance to take part in hands-on activities designed to spark curiosity, while also getting to know the Forest Team, who will be on hand to answer questions and share what makes this such an incredible learning setting. Here, curiosity is encouraged to flourish in a bright, nurturing environment that builds the foundations for a lifetime of learning. In small classes and supportive spaces, children are guided to discover their passions and begin shaping the skills that will carry them forward.
From 10:00am to 1:00pm, the Senior School will open its doors, providing an opportunity to discover our grounds, meet staff and pupils, and see how learning and personal growth are brought to life each day. This is also a chance to meet the new Head, Mr Huw Jones, whose vision for Merchiston is clear: preparing young people for the tests of life, not just a life full of tests.
At Merchiston, academic ambition is balanced with a deep focus on the quality of relationships. Every pupil is known, every individual is valued, and every connection matters. That ethos runs through every classroom, boarding house, and playing field - creating a community where children are encouraged not just to achieve, but to thrive as thoughtful, grounded young individuals.
Perhaps most importantly, Merchiston recognises that no two children take the same path. The school is committed to honing in on each child’s individuality, helping them discover their strengths and craft their own distinctive journey. From the early curiosity sparked in The Forest to the confidence built in the senior years, every stage is about supporting young people to become the best version of themselves - equipped, resilient, and ready to make their mark in the world.
This Open Day is not just a look inside the school buildings - it’s an immersive experience, it’s an invitation to see how lives are shaped, connections are forged, and futures are imagined. Whether it’s in the classroom, across co-curricular activities, or through friendships that last a lifetime, you’ll discover how Merchiston nurtures the whole person.
