Edinburgh Book Festival & Fringe 2025 – Free Family Friendly Events

Updated: Jul 29

It's August, which means the Edinburgh Book Festival and the Fringe are back!

Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025 – Free Family Friendly Events

With over 3,000 shows to choose from, the Fringe can get a bit overwhelming—and the costs can add up too if you have a whole family to accompany. However, Jeni at The Bear & Fox Blog has compiled quite a few free children’s shows, along with a few from the general programme that are categorised as family-friendly. She has listed them in order of recommended age appropriateness. Most of the free events are non-ticketed, meaning they’re first come, first served. Find her list – HERE

The Children’s Programme is always a highlight, and this year’s line-up promises to be fantastic. While tickets for family events are priced at £6 for children and £8 for adults, there are also numerous free events, making the Book Festival accessible to everyone. I wanted to highlight the free events that the wonderful Jeni at The Bear & Fox blog has selected – HERE

On a side note - Did you know that if you’re a library member, you can read and listen to books for free on the Libby app? Even better, Edinburgh Libraries have created some reading/listening lists on @libbyapp_uk, featuring authors in this year’s Book Festival across the adult, YA, and children & families programmes.

Download the app from your app store to see all the incredible books (both new and old releases) and enjoy them for free.
