Are you looking for somewhere near Edinburgh where your child can come up close and pet animals? Here are suggestions from parents on the : Edinburgh Under Fives Facebook page

Menagerie Edinburgh is a small family holding south of the city, at the foot of the Pentland Hills. They offer farm tours where you can get up close with all the animals: chickens, ducks, guinea pigs, rabbits, goats, sheep, donkeys, mini Shetland ponies, and alpacas. Tours are designed to provide a unique and personal interactive experience for all visitors.
The tour normally lasts between one and one and a half hours.

Little Farmers at Craigies
Farmyard animals including goats, sheep, bunnies, donkeys, Highland cows, and Shetland ponies which you can see! If you’re lucky, you might even have the chance to feed them. We recommend planning a visit of around two hours to also enjoy the huge indoor play barn. Make the most of your visit by popping into Craigies Farm Shop & Deli and taking a little taste of Scotland’s larder home with you!

Livingston Mill Farm lies at the heart of the Almond Valley site. Everything is laid out to allow you to meet the animals close-up, while they remain safe, happy, and relaxed. Good hygiene is vital, and there are handwashing stations and other safeguards throughout the site. Animals include: chickens, ducks, guinea pigs, rabbits, goats, sheep, donkeys, mini Shetland ponies, alpacas, tortoises, deer, and ferrets.

On the farm, they have Highland cows, sheep, goats, pigs, horses, donkeys, deer, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, rheas, ducks, prairie dogs, llamas, and wallabies! The whole site also has go-karts, pedal tractors, crazy bikes, a four-level fortress with slides, a sandpit, a playground, a sledging slope, a hay barn, trampolines, jelly bellies, a musical maze, 18-hole crazy golf, and, of course, our safari train which takes you through the fields to meet our friendly animals!
