New Head of Stewart's Melville College

ESMS is delighted to announce the appointment of Frances McCrudden, as Head of Stewart’s Melville College. Her appointment follows a highly competitive external recruitment process.

Anthony Simpson, Principal of ESMS, said:

“There was strong external competition for the role, and I am delighted to say that Frances was the best candidate by far, demonstrating an exciting vision and strategy for Stewart’s Melville College, and a real commitment to student and staff wellbeing. She hit the ground running when she took on the role, as Interim, and I know she will be a strong addition to the Senior Leadership Team."


Frances was born in Edinburgh but studied Economics at the University of Strathclyde, gaining a Bachelor’s Degree. She was awarded a PGCE Distinction from University of Glasgow and began her teaching career in Surrey, before coming ‘home’ to Edinburgh, in 2006, where she joined the ESMS family. At ESMS she has held the roles of Head of Business Studies, Head of Careers, Director of Sixth Form and most recently Interim Head of Stewart’s Melville College. Frances lives in Edinburgh with her husband, her son and her Maltese Shih Tzu.
