Our Top 9 Fringe Shows for Little People (3-7 years) - August 2026

No bubbles or Disney here, I’m afraid! There’s an overwhelming amount on. So our focus was top-notch music, good stories, interactive opportunities and acrobatics. You’ll find many more fantastic options in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe programme, which you can browse online.

Romeo and Juliet for Bairns

Romeo and Juliet for Bairns

Ideal age: 0+

What: Immersive, theatrical, and funny. No tragedy here. Back by popular demand after sell-out shows of Macbeth For Bairns. And yes, you’ll be dancing too. 

When: 7th to 23rd August 

Where: George Mackay Brown Library at Scottish Storytelling Centre

£14 per adult; £10 per child  (2 for 1 tickets on 10th & 11th August)

CeilidhKids at the Fringe

CeilidhKids at the Fringe

Ideal age: 3-7 years

What: Child-friendly expert-led intro. to Scottish dancing. Suitable for the whole family. But best for 3-7s with a (slightly older or adult) partner. 

When: Most days from 6th August (not Wednesdays, or 31st)

Circus The Show
Circus The Show

Ideal age: 3+ (Guideline)

What: Acrobatics, a hilarious clown, juggling etc. You’ll find rave reviews from last year. 

When: From 7th August, early pm almost daily. 2 for 1 tickets on 10th & 11th August. 

Where: Palais du Variété at Assembly George Square Gardens

Ideal age: 3-10 years

What: Puppetry, music and, of course, storytelling

When: 7th-16th August, 11am

Where: Scottish Storytelling Centre

Ideal age: 5+

What: Alphabet not behaving? Enter the Letterman. Expert hilarious clowning around, and plenty of audience participation. 

When: 8th to 31st August 

Where: Billiard Room at Teviot13, Bristo Square

Tenement Jazz Band: Interactive Live Jazz for Kids 

Ideal age: 0+ (see below)

What: Expect real atmosphere, and quality trad jazz. A gig aimed at curious, lively kids who love to boogie! NB: It’s a loud experience! If your kid is sensitive, bring ear defenders. Personally, we wouldn’t take a baby.

The Truth About Trees

Ideal age: 5+

What: How stories can trigger action. A small boy decides to act. Actors, puppets, shadows, and an eco message. 

When: From 7th August, multiple dates (see booking page)

Where: The Box at Assembly George Square

A Pirate’s Bedtime

A Pirate’s Bedtime

Ideal age: 5+

What: Join the pirate crew on their journey of discovery. Funny, fast-paced, with a clear message: gold is not always the greatest treasure. Expect dance, song and live music along the way. 

When: 10th to 15th August

Where: Forest Theatre at Greenside @ George Street (details on booking page) 

£10 full price;   £7 concession; £6.50 family ticket (per person in a family of 4)

Ideal age: 0+ (babies require tickets)

What: Preschool theatre, storytelling, puppetry.

When: From 3rd August, multiple days available

Where: George Young Hall, LifeCare Centre
