St Mary’s Music School is a specialist music school based in Edinburgh offering a world class standard of music and academic education for talented young instrumentalists, singers and composers aged 9 – 19. One of the five Government supported specialist music schools in the UK and the only one in Scotland, the inspiring and inclusive environment enables our pupils to reach their full potential both in music and academically.

Entry to the School is based on musical ability and potential, regardless of personal financial circumstances. The School’s commitment to accessibility is supported by the Scottish Government Aided Places Scheme, offering up to 100% funding for tuition and boarding fees. We welcome pupils from Scotland, the UK, and internationally, creating a vibrant and diverse community.

The school has a distinctive approach which seamlessly integrates musical training with a full academic curriculum. This dual focus ensures that pupils receive a well-rounded education, preparing them for the future, regardless of their chosen career path. Dedicated staff and personalised support systems enable pupils to achieve outstanding academic results and gain access to leading universities and conservatories in the UK and Internationally.

Small class sizes, bespoke timetables and a strong focus on each individual, promotes academic success. In 2024, pupils achieved exceptional academic results, with a 100% pass rate across all levels and over 81% receiving Grade A’s across all SQA examinations.

St Mary’s Music School educates the Choristers of St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, with a five year programme specifically created for children from aged 9 - 13 who love to sing.

In addition, the school runs two courses for older singers. A Changing Voices programme for 13-15 year olds and the Senior Vocal programme for 15–19 year olds.
