This autumn, Stepping Stones Swimming is opening up a new community focused lessons for families in Edinburgh with the launch of Sunday Saver Swimming at Portobello High School.

The sessions are designed to give more children the chance to learn to swim, at a time that suits families juggling school, sports, and family catch ups.

Why Sundays?

Swimming is a life skill every child deserves. For Stepping Stones, it has never just been about lessons, it’s about confidence, safety, and developing skills in the water that last a lifetime. By opening additional sessions on Sunday afternoons, the team hopes to make lessons more accessible, easing waiting lists while welcoming more families into the programme.

Family Values at the Core

Stepping Stones remains a family run swim school, led by Ewan and Michelle since 2013. Their ethos has always been to keep lessons small, supportive, and personal. Teachers are in the water, guiding each child, and progress is tracked with regular updates on the Stepping Stones app and rewarded through their bespoke awards programme.

“For us, it’s about making sure every child has the chance to feel confident and safe in the water,” said Ewan. “By opening new sessions like these, we can give more families that opportunity while staying true to our values of personal, inclusive, and fun lessons.”

A Community Effort

The success of the Sunday programme will be built on the support of local families. The Sunday Saver Sessions has been designed to make swimming more accessible for families. These sessions are offered at a reduced rate, saving families over £80 a year compared to our standard classes. By choosing this slot, parents not only benefit from more affordable lessons but also help us build a stronger swimming community, ensuring more children can enjoy the pool together with friends and family.
