Edinburgh's independent school application deadlines and assessment dates for pupils looking to start next August 2026 are coming up this month. Also this month are taster sessions at many independent schools. Here are a three independent schools, in Edinburgh, with dates coming up.

George Heriots
Heriot's in Action - Senior One takes place on 14 November from 1:45-3pm.
Prospective parents are invited to see lessons in action, meet with Senior School Leadership staff, explore sports facilities, talk to the specialist teachers behind our sector-leading Education Scotland Inspection result and meet the Admissions team

Applications for Primary 1 to Primary 7 must be made by 15 November and for Senior 1 to Senior 5 must be made by 1 December for entry the following August. We will accept late applications only if we have spaces; a limited number of spaces are available in the Junior School for session 2025/26. Applications for Senior 6 can be made after this date, subject to space availability.
St Georges School

Join us for a Taster Afternoon to learn about our transition from primary to secondary education. Meet our Middle School staff, participate in activity sessions, and hear directly from our girls about their journey. Don't miss the live Q&A with staff and a student panel – your opportunity to ask questions and learn about our unique Middle School experience.
Middle School entry in Primary 6, Primary 7, or S1 is an ideal times to join St George's. Each entry point offers unique opportunities for your daughter to transition smoothly into secondary education.
Primary 6: Girls complete their final year of primary education in the supportive environment of our Junior School whilst accessing the wider experiences and enrichment of Middle School including assemblies, events, extended specialist teaching and house activities. This year provides a valuable head start in becoming part of our Middle School community, helping them feel confident and connected as they transition.
Primary 7: In our empowering and inclusive Middle School, girls begin their secondary education a year earlier than in most schools, giving them an advantage in adapting early to new learning experiences and challenges.
S1: This is a key entry point where students benefit from a wider curriculum and gain early leadership roles, providing an excellent foundation as they move on to Upper School.
Entrance assessments and scholarship assessments for entry to S1 in August 2026 will be held in January 2026.
