Families in North Edinburgh have received a welcome boost this January. A local swim school has announced a new initiative designed to get children into the pool, regardless of their financial background.
SwimEasy, a well-known provider in the region, has launched a special bursary scheme for 2026. The magazine understands that there are currently just 9 spaces remaining for eligible children.
Removing the Financial Barrier
Learning to swim is a vital life skill, but for many families, the cost of lessons can be prohibitive. This new scheme tackles that issue head-on. The available spaces are fully funded, providing a full year of regular swimming lessons at no cost to the parents.
The places are specifically for children aged 4 to 8 years old. This is widely considered the most important age for building water safety and confidence.
The organisers have emphasised a "no stigma" approach. The goal is simple: to ensure every child enters the pool on an equal footing, ready to learn and play alongside their peers without financial stress.
Location and Schedule
To ensure the lessons are accessible to the North Edinburgh community, they will be hosted at Craigroyston Community High School.
Classes have been scheduled for Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings, providing flexible options for working parents and busy school schedules.
A Strong Community Effort
This project involves more than just swimming lessons. It is the result of a powerful partnership between SwimEasy and two respected charitable organisations:
The Darcey Sunshine Foundation: A charity championing drowning prevention and water safety.
The Spartans Community Foundation: A key organisation in North Edinburgh dedicated to youth work and social impact.
By collaborating with these foundations, the programme ensures that the pastoral care and community reach match the quality of the swimming tuition.
How Readers Can Apply
With only nine spots left for the 2026 intake, competition is expected to be high.
We encourage any local families, or support workers who know a family in need, to act quickly. This is a rare opportunity for children to gain a skill for life in a supportive, safe environment.
