Discover What Makes Clifton Hall School Special

By Jill Drummond, Headteacher

Clifton Hall School Edinburgh

At Clifton Hall School, every child is known, valued and supported. With a deliberately small school community of no more than 500 pupils—and a warm, nurturing Nursery capped at just 40 children—we provide an education that is personal, purposeful and never one-size-fits-all.

Our small class sizes allow teachers to build strong relationships with every pupil, gaining a deep understanding of their strengths, interests and individual needs. We believe children thrive when they feel confident and supported, which is why we focus on encouragement rather than pressure. There are no stressful entrance exams; instead, we take time to get to know each child and provide the right support to help them flourish.

Our teacher-led Nursery for children aged 3–5 offers an exceptional start to school life. Through high-quality play-based learning, outdoor exploration and rich creative experiences, children develop confidence, curiosity and a genuine love of learning. Families are warmly invited to book a bespoke Stay and Play session to experience our Nursery first-hand.

Junior and Senior Schools

As pupils move through the Junior and Senior Schools, strong academic foundations are combined with excellent opportunities in sport, music, drama and the arts. High expectations, outstanding pastoral care and consistently strong exam results ensure pupils leave Clifton Hall well prepared for the future.

Set within 52 acres of beautiful private grounds on the edge of Edinburgh, Clifton Hall offers an inspiring environment for learning, growth and success.
