Expert Musical Tuition: Portobello Music School Celebrates 20 Years

Portobello Music School is delighted to be celebrating their 20th anniversary year with over 350 students from babies to teens attending its Saturday music classes at Edinburgh College’s Milton Road Campus near Portobello.

Children up to primary 2 age attend a series of progressive creative music classes which prepare them for group instrumental lessons starting in primary 3.

Children can choose from a wide range of instruments including: flute, clarinet, violin, cello, guitar, piano and drums, taught by an enthusiastic team of highly experienced music teachers.

As well as receiving instrumental tuition, children also attend weekly musicianship classes which develop essential aural skills and music theory practice.

These lessons are supported with weekly Music Theory homework tasks which students complete via our cloud-based learning management system. From S1 onwards, students receive individual lessons, preparing them for ABRSM, Trinity, Rockschool and SQA exams.

Some students have gone on to study music full-time at Edinburgh Music School, the prestigious Yehudi Menuhin School and various higher education institutions including the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
