St George’s Extends Provision for Boys in Younger Primary Years

St George’s are delighted to announce that we are extending our provision to enable us to teach boys at the younger end of the primary years up to the end of Primary 3.

From August 2021 boys who currently attend our ante pre-school class will be able to stay for the full two-year duration of the Nursery. Our youngest children can join us at the start of the term of their third birthday.

Over the course of the next three years, we will extend this further and boys will be welcome to stay at St George’s until the end of Primary 3 (ages 6-7 years).

We believe this will be a great help to our families who currently have young children at different schools. We can provide an outstanding early education for St George’s families with young sons as well as daughters.

This initiative will offer a solution for families who plan to send a son on to Merchiston from the age of 7 plus. There will be opportunities for boys to visit and experience a flavour of life at Merchiston, providing a smooth transition for those who choose that route.

Our established daily transport service to and from Merchiston will continue and we will work together to expand our programme of joint activities across the school.

Paul Brewer, Chairman of Council at St George’s commented:

“We are delighted that this development will allow us to meet the needs of current and prospective school families by offering the opportunity to keep brothers and sisters together in one school for the first part of their primary education before progressing to Merchiston or St George’s Upper Primary.”

At this young age girls and boys tend not to feel the pressures of gender roles and learn to pursue areas that interest them without any concern about gender stereotypes.

The first step of our educational journey is a time for children to explore, socialise, play and learn together. St George’s is a setting that offers security, nurture and challenge and where children are excited and happy to come into school.

These changes will not affect our dedication to St George’s heritage as a pioneering girls’ school. We remain committed to the benefits of an all-round education with a distinctive ethos which is totally focused on and designed to educate girls aged 8 to 18 years.
