St George’s School Nursery is situated in Edinburgh’s West End on the school’s fifteen-acre parkland campus.
Our nursery welcomes girls and boys from the term of their 3rd birthday. Wrap-around care is available from 7.45 am and until 6.00 pm, offering flexibility to busy parents.
The nursery provides our youngest learners with the best start to a flexible and caring school education. We nurture and support our children’s interests from a young age by listening to them, observing and supporting their play and providing stimulating learning experiences based around their enthusiasms. This helps us to provide an environment that promotes natural curiosity, wonder and enquiry. Building positive partnerships with parents is important to us and we place high value on working closely with our families.
Located in the Junior School at St George’s School for Girls, the nursery is an integral part of the whole school and is staffed by two dedicated early years and primary trained teachers and a highly qualified team of Early Years professionals.
Our nursery focus is on learning through play. We work within the framework of the Curriculum for Excellence and learning experiences are progressive and stimulating. Children have weekly specialist teaching in PE, music and ballet and there are regular opportunities to experience science, drama, art, gardening and cookery.
An innovative range of outdoor spaces has been developed within our school campus, including the Fantastical Forest, Wild Wood and Secret Garden to cater for an emphasis on Outdoor Learning by providing opportunities for outdoor adventure and exploration, enriching children’s experiences.
Afternoons include trips to a local beach participating in coastal learning, where children explore and learn about the coastal environment. We visit Murrayfield House Care Home, where children play games and hear stories with the elderly residents. Our weekly visits to the Junior School library for a Bookbugs session with the librarian are also much anticipated.
The nursery provides a collaborative approach to learning and ensures a smooth transition to the next stage of school life.
