Upper Sixth Form students from Perthshire’s leading independent school are celebrating outstanding results.

Results published today by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) show Strathallan pupils have achieved 100% A-B’s in Computing, Economics, Music and Modern Languages, with 1 in every 3 grades in all subjects obtained being an A.

One of our pupils delighted to receive results today was Struan Griffiths, Vice-Captain of School. Struan said he was overwhelmed to find out he had achieved 6 A’s at Highers and has confirmed his place at the University of Glasgow to study Geography.

Struan, who joined Strathallan in 2011, obtained these fantastic grades whilst also playing for the Scottish U18 Hockey team, Strathallan’s 1st XV rugby team as well as preforming as a member of the school senior Pipeband.

In light of the results today, our students are headed to their destinations of choice, whether that is, at Russell Group Universities, in further education, starting an apprenticeships or joining the Armed Services (following training via our Combined Cadet Force contingent which includes Army, Navy, and Scotland’s only school Royal Marine section).

Congratulations should also to go to Rowan Laird, who not only did well in his Highers but has also accepted a once-in-a-lifetime traineeship at the William Fox-Pitt Yard in Dorset, where he will help with the Equestrian training in the run up to the eagerly-awaited 2021 Olympics.

Headmaster, Mark Lauder congratulated the pupils on their hard work and well-deserved success. He said, “I am absolutely delighted by these outstanding results, which represent a tremendous achievement for both pupils and staff. Pupils at Strathallan work hard and play hard, being involved in a wide range of extra-curricular activities including sport, drama and music. Having an outlet from academic studies encourages a healthy work/life balance which, in my opinion, spurs the pupils on to even greater academic success. I should also pay tribute to our team of dedicated and dynamic staff who are always willing to go the extra mile in their support for each individual pupil. This is a terrific day for Strathallan and I am very proud of them all.”

In September 2020 Strathallan will become the first boarding school to offer a full programme of SQA one year Higher’s and Advanced Higher’s alongside a full 2 year A Level programme. The introduction of a One-Year Higher, will run alongside and complement our existing, and successful, A-Levels. Last year, Strathallan achieved the best A-Level results in a generation with 45% of all grades achieved being A*/A and 79% of all grades being A*- B, significantly above the UK national average and the grades required for selective university entry.

This year’s Higher results confirm continued significant academic progress in Strathallan’s ambitious and innovative Sixth Form curriculum.
